Coryell House

Located on the north east corner of Lake and Ninth Streets, the Coryell House, built in 1870, was the first residence constructed in Wells. Horace Coryell was a prime mover behind the effort to incorporate the growing community into a city. The City of Wells was incorporated in 1927 and Coryell became the first mayor. Coryell continued in politics, serving in the Nevada State Legislature and eventually becoming the Nevada State Senate's President Pro Tem.
